Adding order to a chaotic world
Plain-language guides for families, older adults, and anyone who wants the setting, not the jargon.
A shared album, a scam call, or a company privacy policy should be understandable without a manual. That is the work of the articles.
Who writes Juggling Chaos
Hi, I’m Robert Gay, and I write the guides on Juggling Chaos. There is no agency team behind these pages.
I’ve spent my career working on websites from the inside. I started as a web developer at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix in 2004. I built applications in PHP and MySQL and learned early why input validation and data sanitization matter.
Over the next thirteen years I moved up to manage the web development team and its Linux server environments. I eventually became Associate Director of Marketing Technology, leading two teams totaling 14 people. Along the way, my teams brought the university’s main websites up to WCAG AA accessibility standards and built an in-house call-tracking system that saved roughly $2 million a year compared with commercial software.
After that, I worked in marketing and web management:
- Account manager at RX Marketing Group, handling 75 client accounts
- Web and marketing manager at Bedrock Financial Services, where I kept WordPress sites patched and firewalled
- Sales and marketing manager at HolidayRental.com in Scottsdale, where I studied how people behave online and led the company’s email and advertising campaigns
Security has been part of the job the whole way through. That has meant hardening servers, testing sites with vulnerability scanners, and closing the kinds of holes, such as cross-site scripting, that attackers look for first.
That experience is why this site exists. Scams and confusing settings are designed to exploit the gap between how technology works and how most people use it. Since leaving HolidayRental.com at the end of 2023, I’ve been building on my background toward a career in cybersecurity. Juggling Chaos is where I put that learning to work for everyday readers.
My education is in computer information systems (BS, DeVry University) and management information systems (MBA, Grand Canyon University). I’m not a lawyer or a fraud investigator. If you’ve lost money to a scam, contact your bank right away and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
What you’ll find here
- Scam alerts that explain the red flags, not just the headline
- Plain-language explainers on phishing, malware, data breaches, and more
- Safety ratings for apps and platforms families use
- Reviews of company privacy policies, translated into what they mean for you
Company privacy-policy reviews live in their own section so they are not confused with this site’s privacy policy. How guides are researched, checked, and corrected is explained in the Editorial Policy. Spot an error? Corrections go to the contact page.
