Netflix Parental Controls: Kids Profiles, Ratings and Profile Locks

Netflix works on profiles. Each profile can have its own maturity rating, blocked titles and PIN, so children can’t simply switch to a parent’s profile. A few minutes of setup makes the whole account family-friendly. Checked October 25, 2026.

Step 1: Create a kids profile

Add a profile for each child and turn on the Kids experience for younger children. It shows only titles and games for the age range you choose, with a simpler layout.

Step 2: Set maturity ratings and block titles

In a web browser: go to Account > Profiles > Adjust parental controls, choose the child’s profile and verify it’s you. Pick the highest maturity rating to allow, add any titles to block under Title Restrictions, then select Save.

In the mobile app: tap My Netflix, tap the profile name at the top, then Manage Profiles. Choose the profile and open Viewing Restrictions to set the Maturity Rating or Block Titles.

For a Kids profile, Netflix says you need to use a web browser to change the rating or block titles. Netflix games have their own maturity ratings, set separately from TV and movies.

Step 3: Lock the adult profiles

  1. In a web browser, go to netflix.com/account and select Profiles.
  2. Choose your profile, select Profile Lock, then Create a Profile Lock.
  3. Verify it’s you and enter a 4-digit PIN.
  4. On the main (first) profile, check Require PIN to add new profiles so a child can’t make an unrestricted profile.

Repeat the lock for any older siblings’ profiles.

Step 4: Autoplay and viewing history

  • Turn off autoplay of the next episode to make stopping easier. See Screen Time and Sleep.
  • Turn off autoplay previews if they pull children toward other shows.
  • Check viewing history on each profile now and then.

Quick checklist

  • A separate profile for each child
  • Maturity rating set on each child profile
  • Adult profiles locked with a PIN
  • PIN required to add new profiles
  • Next-episode autoplay off for kids

Frequently asked questions

Can my child just use my profile?
Only if it isn’t locked. Add a profile lock to every profile that isn’t meant for children.

I can’t change the rating on a Kids profile.
Use a web browser rather than the app. Kids profile ratings and blocked titles can only be changed there.

I changed a setting but nothing looks different.
Settings are saved to the account, so they apply on every device. You may need to refresh: switch profiles and back, or sign out and in again.
