You are not in trouble. You are not alone. This can be stopped.
Threatening to share someone’s private images is a crime. The person doing it is to blame, not you.
Do this
- Don’t pay and don’t send anything more. Paying usually leads to more demands.
- Save the evidence: screenshots of messages, usernames and links.
- Block and report the account on the app.
- Tell a trusted adult today.
- Report it to the NCMEC CyberTipline: report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.
- Get images removed: takeitdown.ncmec.org helps remove images of anyone who was under 18.
For parents
- Stay calm and thank your child for telling you.
- Don’t take away their phone as punishment. It teaches them not to tell you next time.
- If your child is in danger or talks about self-harm, call 911, or call or text 988.
