Epic Games Privacy Policy Review
This review explains the Epic Games Privacy Policy, which covers Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys and the Epic Games Store, in plain language for parents and players. It was checked on October 28, 2026, against the version last updated January 17, 2025. This is not legal advice.
Primary source: Epic Games Privacy Policy. Epic Games, Inc. is based in Cary, North Carolina. Some products have their own controller, such as Psyonix and Mediatonic.
Snapshot
- Epic says it does “not sell or share (as those are defined in the CCPA)” the personal information it collects.
- Children under 13, or the local age of digital consent, get a Cabined Account until a parent verifies and consents. Voice chat and real-money purchases are off in a Cabined Account.
- Snippets of voice chat audio are kept on your device so they can be sent with a report.
- Data may train machine learning models that detect toxic, illegal or harmful content.
- Location is general, usually worked out from your IP address.
What they collect
Epic collects account details, date of birth, payment information, gameplay and usage data, and device identifiers. Location is “the general location of your device, which we typically derive from your device’s IP address.” For voice chat, “snippets of voice chat audio data will be stored on your device.” The policy does not mention biometric data.
Who gets the data
Epic says it does not sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms. Data goes to service providers and to the Epic entity that runs a given game. Other players see your display name and what you say in chat.
Easy to miss
- A child’s account stays cabined until a parent finishes Epic’s parent verification. Skipping it keeps chat and purchases off.
- Parental Controls are locked with a PIN. Keep the PIN away from the child.
- Voice chat snippets live on the player’s device so they can be attached to a report.
New technology
Epic says it may use information for “training machine learning models used to help detect or moderate toxic, illegal, or harmful content.” That is the only AI training use named, and no opt-out is described.
Kids and families
Epic treats anyone under 13, or the higher local age of digital consent, as a child. Their accounts start cabined, with “features like voice chat and real money purchases” disabled. A parent must complete verification to change that, then manages settings in Parental Controls with a PIN. Our Fortnite parental controls guide shows each setting.
Older adults
“Free V-Bucks” offers are scams. Buy V-Bucks cards only from a store or inside the game. A parent can request a child’s data or deletion with Epic’s Parent Support Request form.
What you can turn off
- Set Parental Controls with a PIN, including voice and text chat and purchase limits.
- Change email marketing preferences at any time.
- Limit cookies and tracking in your browser or device settings.
What this means for you
Epic’s policy is fairly protective for kids by default: young players start without voice chat or purchases. The key step for a parent is to set Parental Controls and keep the PIN.
What is a Cabined Account?
It is the limited account Epic gives a child until a parent consents. Voice chat and real-money purchases are disabled.
Does Epic sell my child’s data?
The policy says Epic does not sell or share personal information as the California Consumer Privacy Act defines those terms.
