Venmo Privacy Policy Review
This review explains the Venmo U.S. Privacy Statement in plain language for families. It was checked on October 28, 2026, against the version effective November 17, 2025. This is not legal advice.
Primary source: Venmo Privacy Statement. Venmo is a PayPal, Inc. service, and PayPal, Inc. is the data controller.
Snapshot
- “We do not sell or share your Personal Information, including any Sensitive Personal Information.”
- Public profiles can show public transactions you were part of. Each payment has its own privacy setting.
- With consent, Venmo collects face scans to authenticate your account.
- Teen Accounts are for ages 13 to 17, set up by an account holder.
- The statement does not address AI training.
What they collect
Venmo collects geolocation, mainly for fraud and risk, and contacts you choose to import. With your consent, the statement says “we collect face scans to authenticate your account.” Payments and their notes can be visible depending on each transaction’s privacy setting.
Who gets the data
Venmo says it does not sell or share personal information. The bigger exposure is other users: public transactions and your friends list can be seen by others unless you change the settings.
Easy to miss
- Payment notes like “rent” or “pizza with Sam” can reveal routines if a transaction is public.
- Venmo does not respond to Do Not Track signals.
New technology
The statement does not say whether personal data is used to train AI or machine learning models. Face scans for authentication need consent.
Kids and families
Venmo is not directed to children under 13. Teen Accounts are offered to an account holder’s authorized teen “between the ages of 13 and 17 years old at account creation.”
Older adults
Venmo is a common way scammers ask to be paid, because payments are fast and hard to reverse. Only pay people you know in person. Venmo’s privacy contact is privacy@venmo.com.
What you can turn off
- In the privacy section of settings, make transactions private and hide your friends list.
- Stop syncing contacts if you don’t need it.
- Turn off location permission for the app in your phone’s settings.
What this means for you
Venmo says it does not sell or share data. The real privacy risk is what other users can see, so set transactions and your friends list to private.
Can strangers see my Venmo payments?
The statement says public profiles can show public transactions you were involved in. Visibility depends on each transaction’s privacy setting.
