Zoom Privacy Policy Review
This review explains the Zoom Privacy Statement in plain language for families who use Zoom for school, doctor visits or calls with relatives. It was checked on October 28, 2026, against the version last updated September 17, 2026. Zoom’s separate Children’s Educational Privacy Statement was not opened. This is not legal advice.

Snapshot
- Zoom says it does not use your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or similar content to train Zoom’s or third-party AI models.
- It says it does not sell personal data “in the conventional sense,” but advertising cookies on its website may count as sharing for targeted ads. There is an opt-out.
- Children under 16 cannot sign up for their own Zoom account. Schools use a separate statement.
- Location from IP address is general, at city or country level.
- The account owner can view and share recordings and transcripts of meetings hosted on that account.
What they collect
Zoom collects account and profile details, device and usage data, and meeting content such as audio, video and transcripts when meetings are recorded or transcribed. Location is approximate, from IP address.
Who gets the data
Ad and analytics cookies on Zoom’s website may count as sharing for targeted advertising. You can opt out in Cookies Settings or through “Your Privacy Choices,” and residents of several states can use Global Privacy Control. The host’s account owner controls recordings.
Easy to miss
- When you join someone else’s meeting, their account owner decides about recording and can see the recording and transcript.
- Some diagnostic data collection is optional and has its own setting.
New technology
Zoom’s promise is one of the clearest we have read: meeting audio, video, chat and similar content is not used to train Zoom’s or third-party AI models. Biometric video effects need your consent.
Kids and families
“Zoom does not allow children under the age of 16 to sign up for a Zoom account.” Schools that serve children under 18 are covered by a separate Children’s Educational Privacy Statement.
Older adults
Fake Zoom invitations and “your account is suspended” emails are common. Open Zoom from the app or by typing zoom.us. Zoom’s privacy contact is privacy@zoom.us.
What you can turn off
- On Zoom’s website, open Cookies Settings or Your Privacy Choices to turn off ad cookies.
- Turn off optional Diagnostic Data Preferences.
- Opt out of Zoom marketing emails.
What this means for you
Zoom keeps meeting content out of AI training. The bigger privacy question is who hosts the meeting and whether it is recorded.
Does Zoom use my calls to train AI?
The statement says Zoom does not use audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications-like content to train Zoom’s or third-party AI models.
This is not legal advice. Checked October 28, 2026 against the statement last updated September 17, 2026.
