Cash App Privacy Policy Review

This review explains the Cash App U.S. Privacy Notice in plain language for families and older adults. It was checked on October 28, 2026, against the version effective June 8, 2026. This is not legal advice.

Primary source: Cash App Privacy Notice. It is issued by Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.) and its affiliates.

Snapshot

  • Cash App says it does not sell personal data in the usual sense, but it does “share” personal information for advertising. Two opt-outs exist.
  • Personal data may be used for “training artificial intelligence (AI) and other machine learning models.”
  • Verification photos can produce a “facial scan and biometric information.”
  • A parent or guardian must sign up for or authorize services for children under 13.
  • Cash App says it does not knowingly sell or share for targeted ads the data of children under 16.

What they collect

Cash App collects “the location of your device, including your IP address and location of your network provider,” phone contacts if you allow it, and a “facial scan and biometric information extracted from such images for verification purposes.”

Who gets the data

Cash App shares personal information for advertising. You can opt out through the “Your Privacy Choices” link on the website, and opt out of its commerce media network in the app under Account & Settings, then Privacy.

Easy to miss

  • The website opt-out and the in-app commerce media opt-out are separate. Do both.
  • Contact syncing continues until you turn it off.

New technology

Cash App names AI and machine learning training, including to protect its services. No opt-out from training is described.

Kids and families

“A parent or guardian must sign up for or authorize Services for children under the age of 13.” The notice did not describe teen sponsored accounts.

Older adults

Cash App payments are fast and hard to reverse, which makes them a scammer favorite. Cash App’s real support is cash.app/support and 1-800-969-1940. Anyone who asks you to send money to “verify” your account is a scammer.

What you can turn off

  1. Use the Your Privacy Choices link on the website to opt out of sharing for ads.
  2. In the app, go to Account & Settings, then Privacy, to opt out of commerce media targeting.
  3. Stop sharing phone contacts and turn off location permission.
  4. Opt out of promotional messages.

What this means for you

Cash App shares data for ads and trains AI on it. The two opt-outs take a few minutes and are worth it.

Does Cash App sell my data?

The notice says Cash App does not sell personal data in the usual sense, but does share it for advertising, with opt-outs.

This is not legal advice. Checked October 28, 2026 against the notice effective June 8, 2026.
