Verizon Privacy Policy Review

This review explains Verizon’s Privacy Policy for Verizon Wireless and Verizon Value customers in plain language. It was checked on October 28, 2026. The sections we read did not show an effective date, and the page metadata shows an update on October 16, 2026. The policy is long, and its last part was not read in full. This is not legal advice.

Primary source: Verizon Privacy Policy.

Snapshot

  • Verizon says plainly: “we sell or share personal information with social media networks and advertising technology companies.” You can opt out.
  • Custom Experience is on unless you opt out. Custom Experience Plus requires you to opt in.
  • “We do not collect, use or sell personal information for the purpose of training large language models.” Verizon does use machine learning for marketing and predictions.
  • Verizon collects cell tower location and information about browsing, searching and buying.
  • It says it does not knowingly sell or share data of children under 16.

What they collect

As your phone company, Verizon sees a lot. “We collect cell tower location information.” It describes collecting “information about your browsing, searching and buying activities,” and CPNI, the details of your calls such as type, quantity and destination.

Who gets the data

Verizon says it sells or shares personal information with social media networks and ad tech companies. You can limit this through Your Privacy Choices or the privacy preferences page in My Verizon.

Easy to miss

  • Custom Experience uses your browsing and app usage for personalization unless you opt out. Each line on a family plan has its own setting.
  • Relevant Online Advertising is a separate setting from Custom Experience.

New technology

Verizon draws a clear line: no personal information for training large language models. It may still “use machine learning techniques to train algorithmic models” for marketing and predictions.

Kids and families

“We do not knowingly sell or share personal information related to children under 16 years of age.” Verizon only knows a line belongs to a child if you tell it, so mark children’s lines in your account where possible.

Older adults

Phone companies are a favorite target for SIM-swap scams. Verizon’s Privacy Dashboard is the real place to make choices. Read our SIM swap guide to lock your number.

What you can turn off

  1. Use Your Privacy Choices to limit the sale and sharing of personal information.
  2. Opt out of Custom Experience on the privacy preferences page in My Verizon, for every line.
  3. Turn off Relevant Online Advertising and review location settings.

What this means for you

Verizon is unusually direct that it sells or shares data for advertising. The opt-outs work line by line, so a family plan needs a few minutes per line.

Does Verizon sell my data?

The policy says Verizon sells or shares personal information with social media networks and advertising technology companies, and lets you opt out.

This is not legal advice. Checked October 28, 2026.
